When A Missionary Pilot Sees A Whole New Meaning About Taking God’s Yoke

When I was a student pilot, I was very lazy in using the rudders to fly the airplane(the pedals for the feet).

I remember my instructor did the craziest thing, he said “You can’t use the yoke to fly the airplane, Bennett. Use your trim, power and your feet.”

Oh mannnn, I was sweating like a pig that day. He would allow me to fly the traffic pattern 98% without my hands on the control, I made turns, climbing and descend with no yoke. It was scary at first, but guess what I got the hang of it.

Moral of the story for me: Sometimes God takes away something what we think we can’t live without just to help us realize that he can use the weak things to confound the strong.

There are so many things I’ve held on to for years, thinking that without them I can’t make life easier for me but then God steps in and take the controls from my hands and say to me “Walk by faith and not by sight. “

I feel like preaching right here. I had a lot of plans to work and finish my medical missionary pilot training but God cut off my own efforts to help my self, then exiled me in the Philippines for 9yrs (yup I can’t leave due to being banned from US).

No work option, no church to fundraise, no relatives to call on for financial help. And sometimes I’ll be honest it’s a scary experience, people mocking you, questioning your relationship with God, and so much more.

That’s when I remember, “Wait a minute here, God called me to this life in the first place right? Why not take His yoke and let Him fly my yoke?” I can’t help but see Gods hands in all the affairs of my life. Missionary pilot training did more for my faith than a mere pilot license.

How is your walk with God? Do you trust Him completely or do you have more confidence when your own efforts are involved? Has He ever put more upon you than you can handle?

I remember after I got my pilot license I took some friends out flying and I was showing them that I can fly with no hands. #byhisstripesministries
