Happy new year everyone! Welcome 2019!
This year, we are taking the time to update ourselves with getting more education. It’s not new to many that Davin is planning to get his instrument-rated training. We have been working towards raising funds for that and the Lord is providing little by little. More news about Davin’s training in the weeks to come. In the meantime, I am also working on being current with my piano teaching methods.
It’s been 12 years since I got upgraded with the Suzuki Method. I’ve always wanted to do it and tried to find opportunities to do it in the US. Although I had the time, the fees were too expensive for what I can afford. With the cost of training, travel, lodging and food, I would probably have to spend around $2500.
When we got back in the Philippines a few months ago, I had the opportunity to attend the Asia Suzuki Conference and was inspired to retake a teacher training. It was the best decision ever because there were certainly a lot of things I had to change, as well as to be reminded of.
Our trainer is about 85 years old, and the prime Suzuki piano trainer in Asia. She’s also the president of the Asia Regional Suzuki Association and had years upon years of experience. And because she’s a Filipino, she had a special discount rate for Filipinos so the Suzuki Piano method can thrive in the Philippines. It was truly a golden opportunity to be trained again, but more important than that, to impart to my students the knowledge I learned at such a low cost.
